The vein system in the rectal reigon comprizes several groups of veins, both internal and external. When internal veins are affected this condition is referred to as internal hemorrhoids, whereas when the affected vein group is an external group then the resulting hemorrhoids are knows as external hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids are mostly caused by constipation and or pregnancy. The pressure of forcing on the rectal area veins causes them to enlarge and become inflamed. Once hemorrhoids have occurred they are usually there for life or until removed surgically.

When they are not inflamed or bleeding they cause little trouble and most people literally put up with them.

However when they decide to act up they can be very painful and problematic.

Internal hemorrhoids are not prone to pain but they are prone to bleeding and itching.

External hemorrhoids have a tendency to develop clotting and this canĀ lead to thrombosed symptoms which can be extremely painful. In a thrombosed external hemorrhoid the blood supply is cut off by a blood clot developing within the hemorrhoid.

It is good medical advice to consult a doctor if exterme pain is experienced form a thrombosed external hemorrhoid
